Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition that affects how a woman's ovaries work.

The 3 main features of PCOS are:

  • irregular periods – which your ovaries do not regularly release eggs (ovulation)

  • excess androgen – high levels of "male" in your body, which may cause physical signs such as excess facial or body hair

  • polycystic ovaries – your ovaries become enlarged and contain many fluid-filled sacs (follicles) that surround the eggs (but despite the name, you do not actually have cysts if you have PCOS)

If you have at least 2 of these features, you may be diagnosed with PCOS.

Welcome!

Hi everyone and welcome to my site. Thank you so much for taking your time to visit. I started this site as a place to document my final year university photography project 'Invisible Anomalies' and I am hoping it will grow into a place of community.

The project looks into PCOS and attempts to show within images what it can feel like to live with PCOS and the many different ways it can effect different women.

I put together this site not only as a place were the images can be displayed but also a place that can be used to create a comminutity for those who also suffer with PCOS or those who are looking for any support or advice. wether you have PCOS yourself or have a close friend or family member who suffers with it, you can feel free to post and share any stories or ask any questions you may have.

Feel free to have a look at the images I have created for this project and if you like what you see please feel free to give me a follow on instagram at @emilyturnerphoto where I will be posting these images along with some other content surrounding this project

Thanks

Emily xx

These are just some of the main symptoms of PCOS and not all. Anyone who suffers with PCOS will know that it can also effect your mood, your weight, your skin, your hair, stress levels, hunger levels, how well you sleep (or don't sleep) at night. And that is not including all of the emotional effects that it can have on a person. There are so many areas that PCOS can effect that aren't mentioned at all when you seek medical advice and this needs to change!
